Jazz at Drew

Annual Music Festival

Jazz at Drew: About

Jazz at Drew is an annual music festival that began in 1991 as part of a scholarship fund raising event sponsored by the Alumni Association. It was the culmination of several celebrations held that year in honor of the university's founding, twenty-five years earlier. Hosted on the campus of Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, the festival continued on through 2008 as a multi-day event. In 2009, the event was canceled due to financial difficulties resulting from the Great Recession. In 2016, as part of CDU's 50th anniversary celebratory activities, Jazz at Drew returned as a single day celebration of music, food and culture and continues on to this day each October.

Unless noted, all the images in this guide are from souvenir booklets held as part of the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, Health Sciences Library and Archives, "Jazz at Drew Collection." Because of format limitations and a desire to achieve a visual balance of continuity, only a small selection of pages were scanned and uploaded for viewing in the "Jazz at Drew Award Recipients" section.
