Family Medicine Residency Resources: Family Medicine Journals and Articles

Family Practice Journals

Finding More Journals

The CDU Library subscribes to thousands of medical journals.  To see an A-Z list, use the Journal Master List from the Library's home page.  You can browse titles or search for a specific title.  Each item will include the dates of coverage and a link to the journal.

Finding and retrieving articles

You will probably use either PubMed or Google Scholar to identify useful articles.  Our subscribed journals are linked to these databases, and if the library subscribes to the journal, you will be able to access the full text directly.  Use the links below or on the Library's home page to use the custom features.

Pubmed, produced by the National Library of Medicine is a huge source of articles.  If you like an article in the search results, click on the title to view the abstract.  In the upper right-hand corner you will see a yellow CDU icon.  Click on this.  The next screen will either give you a link to the full text or the article or a link to an Interlibrary Loan form which requests that the library staff obtain the article from another library.

Google Scholar contains millions of references in all academic subjects.  When viewing your search results, if you see the link to Full Text@CDREWU.EDU, you can click on it and it will take you to the same screen as in PubMed.  (If you don't see the CDU links to full text, follow these steps from a Google Scholar search page:  Click on the three horizontal lines.  Click on Settings.  Click on Library Links.  Enter Charles R. Drew in the Search box and check it.)

Good to Know

CDU has a site license for EndNote, which can be installed on your computer.  It will help you keep track of your references and insert them into your research paper correctly formatted.  Both PubMed and Google Scholar allow downloads of citations directly into EndNote.
