Citation and Writing Guides: Writing Basics: Grammar, Misspelling, & Punctuation

Resources and guidelines regarding citations and writing

Writing is an Essential Tool

In the world of science, writing plays a significant role, encompassing various tasks such as drafting manuscripts, securing grants, compiling reports, creating protocols, delivering presentations, and even composing emails.

Despite its undeniable importance, there is a widespread misconception that writing is not a part of science itself. This outdated notion has led to the downplaying of writing and communication skills in the education and training of new scientists. The truth, however, is that being a proficient writer is an integral component of being a scientist. In today's fiercely competitive academic and scientific landscapes, scientists must have writing abilities in addition to their experimental prowess to effectively showcase their work.

Writing is an essential skill for scientists, and learning how to write effectively starts with good fundamentals and lots of practice. Make sure you clearly express what you want to convey and identify your audience or intended recipients.
