Who can check out materials from the library?
Only CDU students, faculty, and staff who have registered with the library may check out materials. Public users are welcome to use the materials within the library.
Who can use the library services?
The library is open for anyone to use the resources in the library.
The public may use any of the books, bound journals, or audiovisuals while in the library. They may also use the library's computers to access electronic resources, and use guest access to the wireless network.
Some services are limited to CDU students, faculty and staff: borrowing books, print journals and audiovisuals; remote access to electronic resources; student and staff wireless access.
Can I renew books, journals or audiovisual materials?
Yes. The renewal period is the same as the original checkout. After one renewal, you must return the item to the library. You can renew over the phone or in-person
How long can I check out audiovisual materials for?
You may check out most audiovisual materials for 14 days. After that you may renew them for another 14 days. After this renewal period, you must return them to the library. The supplementary CDs or other media that are included with some books, and are kept behind the Circulation Desk, may be checked out for 21 days and renewed once, like the books they go with.
How long can I check out books for?
You may check out up to 4 books for 21 days. After that you may renew them for another 21 days. After this renewal period, you must return them to the library.
How do I register to check out materials?
In order to register with the library, you will need to bring your CDU ID to the library and fill out a registration card. A library bar code will be placed on your CDU ID. Then you can check out materials.
I need to return my books, but I know that the library is closed. What can I do?
On the south side of the Cobb Building, facing the Hawkins Building, there is a book return slot near the main outside door. You may put your books there, and we will check them in first thing when the library opens. Thank you.

I didn't return my books or journals by the due date. What will happen now?
While we don't currently charge overdue fines, you must return the items quickly. Your borrowing privileges have been suspended, and you won't be able to borrow or renew anything until three weeks after you return any overdue items.
I don't go to school or work here. Can I still check out books?
No. Only CDU students, faculty, and staff may check out books. But you are welcome to come to the library and read them here.
I just graduated from CDU. Can I still check out materials and/or access electronic resources from off campus?
Unfortunately, once you are cleared for graduation, you will be removed from our system, and will no longer be able to check out materials.
I lost/don't have my CDU ID. Can I still check out materials?
No. Your CDU ID, with its bar code, is your library card.
I just used a book/bound journal volume and I am finished with it. Where should I put it?
Thank you for using our materials. When you are finished with them, you can place them on one of the book carts, turn them in to the circulation desk, or leave them on the table. One of our staff will put them away.
My friend lost/doesn't have his/her CDU ID. Can I check out books for him/her?
That probably isn't a good idea. When you registered, you agreed to be responsible for anything checked out in your name. So if your friend turns the book in late or loses or damages it, you will be responsible.
